John W. Barry, Jr. died on August 26, 2021, far too young at the age of 76 years. John was born to Doris McCutcheon and John W. Barry on July 17, 1945 in Hartford, CT and lived his childhood in East Hartland, CT and West Hartford, CT. John and his wife Susan fell in love and married within weeks of meeting, and they were very very happily married for 37 years. They lived the early part of their marriage in Massachusetts, but when they found “paradise” on a visit to Florida, John and Susan soon packed up and moved to Florida, living in several locations while caring for John’s elderly mother, and they eventually found a beautiful place in Satsuma to call home. As a Master Mechanic and a Service Manager for Ryder Truck, John prided himself on customer service and doing things correctly. If John set his mind to doing anything, it was done and done right. John would say that he preferred dogs to people, but in fact he treated both with kindness and generosity. He was friendly and outgoing and always helping those around him. When his wife Susan died, John was devastated, but his German Shepherds became his world: Yonny, Elsa, Dacha, Ned & Sarge, and then a little rescue mix-breed named Maddie. He was an animal lover to the core – birds, squirrels, turtles, feral cats – you name it, he loved and cared for them all. John was also a master woodworker and had a small woodshop where he made beautiful gifts for friends and family. Other passions during his life included flying his airplane and riding his motorcycle. John is survived by his beloved Ned, Sarge and Maddie, his daughter Allison Barry, his two stepsons Austin Snow and Rickie Snow who he raised from boyhood, his sister Joan Wood, his half-sister Carol Phelps, his half-brothers David Barry and Robert Barry, and his very close friend Dana Brownett, along with many grandchildren, nieces and nephews and close friends.
